Year 5 went on an exciting journey through science: they arrived at Beaconsfield High at 9 o’clock and walked through into the cafeteria (which was filled with delicious food) and sat down to play Harry Potter trivial pursuit. Then ‘Professor McGonagall’ made an announcement and split us into three groups, she directed one group to lab 1.
In the first lab, she explained that we would be solving who murdered Argus Filch. We began by testing vomit samples from the scene of the crime. We were given two different sandwiches (one marmite, one jam) and we mashed them up and put it in a heating unit.
In the second lab, we observed our fingerprints. Winky the house elf gave us each a plastic bottle which contained Butter Beer and we had to dust the finger prints with a special powder before preserving the print with adhesive tape and pasting it in our leaflets.
In the third lad, we saw the scene of the crime but still had a few more puzzles to solve. We turned on the Bunsen burners and added oxygen. We then poured different potions on a stick and put it in the flame. The result was different coloured flames, it was amazing! After that we drew in different pens and put ethanol onto the paper. Slowly it began to spread out. Next, we discovered a message written in secret ink which revealed the real killer.
It was Professor Umbridge!
