Dear Parents and Carers,
Issues around E-Safety are always at the forefront of our mind and seem to be in the media at all-too-regular intervals for the wrong reasons.
Recently, it was announced that Instagram has been the biggest online platform used for grooming. A recent local press release stated that
According to the NSPCC, Police in England and Wales recorded nearly 2,000 incidents of sexual communication with children during a 6-month period, and Instagram was the primary social-platform used by online predators to communicate with young victims. It also stated that Facebook and Snapchat were also used as a primary method of communication. Asparents, carers and trusted adults it is important to note that this can happen on any online communication platform. The NSPCC is calling for new laws to force social media firms to do more to protect children.
We know it is essential to keep in touch with what our children are accessing online, but how to do that without them feeling we're looking over their shoulders can be tricky.
National Online Safety have recently published this poster below to help parents with just this issue.
It gives you 7 questions that you could ask your children which will help you understand what they're into and how you can support them.
We hope you find it helpful in being able to start a conversation with your children.
NOS have recently published an updated Instagram guide on their website.
To access this, please remember to log in using the school log in area, which will give you access to all the resources and information on the online world.
