The tough tray has had the coloured rice in which seems to be a huge hit. The children have mixed animals and of course the dinosaurs in making tracks, pretending to feed them. We have been using rulers to measure the tracks and jugs to measure who has the most. Lots of the children have been asking to measure so next week we will take this forward with weighing and measuring solid objects as well as liquid.
We have completed lots of activities in our key group as well some at circle time as a whole group. We all played a shape game looking at different shapes, how many sides they have and seeing which hoop they belong in. The children all worked together counting the sides on the object to see where the shape should go and we talked about squares, circles, stars, diamonds, triangles, oval and even a hexagon.
We built an obstacle course for everyone outside. We split into groups, working as teams to help each other complete each task and the children balanced, crawled, threw, sorted and played ball games. The children gained confidence with each task after a practice go sometimes with help from their friends and then had a go on their own.
The children have been interested in reading Paw Patrol books and particularly the story about robots. This has led us to using magnets, talking about how things work and why things happen. The children found different objects around Pre-school to see what was attracted to the magnets. We also started to talk about what happens when the magnets repel and it was quite fun moving the magnet on top of the table by using another one under the table! Although I think going under the table was more of an attraction than the moving magnet!
Lots of the children have been interested in the 'What links game' - matching the chicken and egg, football and goal, moon and stars. To start with quite a few children were just watching but after a few goes most of them wanted a turn.
On our craft table the children have been using paint and glitter to create frosty pictures and have been talking about how cold it is, what the frost is like using lots of words - crisp, cold, sparkly, shiny, slippery unfortunately it hasn't been frosty enough to use our cardboard boxes on the mound as sledges - maybe next week! We will be watching the weather in the next few weeks. Some of us even hoping for snow !!! ⛄️⛄️
Don't forget to let me know if you want any extra hours after Easter as I am offering sessions to children on the waiting list as of next week.
Have a lovely weekend.
