We are very proud to hold the Primary Science Quality Mark. At Holtspur, high-quality science is an explorative and inspiring subject where learning takes place in our extensive and beautiful surroundings. Children relish the stimulating curriculum, designed to broaden their understanding, and provoke thinking about the world around them. Pupils retain prior-learning and explicitly make connections between what they have previously learned and what they are currently investigating. Staff at Holtspur expand their own knowledge through regular and impactful training to help them develop the curriculum, based on pupil and staff surveys. Science is entirely inclusive through differentiated activities where every child achieves successful outcomes. All children learn through ambitious, practical, hands-on activities and investigations both in and outside of the classroom, including our purpose built ‘Nest’. A rich vocabulary enables them to articulate their understanding of taught concepts and build confidence and a lifelong love of learning for all aspects of science; including an annual STEM week and a pupil-led ECO Council designed to inspire others to further develop scientists of the future who are ready for their move to secondary school. Every child at Holtspur is a scientist.
