Special Educational Needs and Accessibility Plan
At Holtspur School, we are dedicated to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for all students, including those with special educational needs (SEN).
We recognise that sometimes learning can be challenging for pupils and that various barriers can impede pupils' educational progress and overall well-being. These barriers can include learning difficulties, emotional and behavioural challenges and physical disabilities.
We strive to create an environment where every student has the opportunity to overcome these challenges, ensuring they can achieve their full potential and participate fully in school life.
In our school, we provide quality first teaching for all pupils, alongside trained Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) who are responsible in running a number of interventions alongside providing additional provisions to meet the pupils’ needs.
We are proud that our school has a positive attitude towards the inclusion of all pupils with SEN. We do this by celebrating diversity and promoting equality, we ensure that every child feels valued and empowered, reflecting our commitment to an inclusive educational community.
SEND Support Plans
Every child on the SEN register at Holtspur School, has a SEND support plan. The support plan outlines desired outcomes, types of provision and the time frame these are to be carried out in. These plans are shared with parents so we can foster a collaborative approach to their child's education, ensuring that both school and home environments are aligned in supporting the pupil’s needs.
Assess, Plan, Do, Review
as set out in the SEND Code of Practice 5.36
Assess | If we feel your child has SEND, we will write a SEND support plan which as a mainstream school we must provide. This plan identifies your child's needs, the action needed and planned outcomes. However, if your child's needs are severe or complex they may go straight to the next step - formal assessment. |
Plan | Every child on the SEND register has a SEND support plan. This outlines desired outcomes, type of provision, time and financial costings. |
Do | We have Teaching Assistants to support those children with additional needs. They are trained to run a number of interventions and support children in class with the targets outlined on their support plans. |
Review | These are shared with parents and carers three times per year. |
Ordinarily Available Provision (OAP)
OAP promotes a consistent ethos to supporting children receiving SEND Support. This approach has been created by schools, professionals and parents and is a fantastic user-friendly, accessible resource for all.
It outlines the special educational needs that children may have across the four broad areas, with easy to use provision suggestions for all members of school staff and families alike, as well as strategies for the whole school and quality first teaching.
