At Holtspur, we inspire all children to become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics through varied and regular practice, developing increasingly complex understanding over time. As a Maths Mastery school, we use White Rose as a tool to ensure all children can reason, think deeply, and use precise mathematical language to justify and prove their ideas.

Children apply their mathematical understanding to a wide range of real-life contexts with increasing confidence, making connections to the broader concepts needed for modern Britain. Learning is consolidated through a hands-on, practical approach using concrete resources, before progressing through pictorial representations and into abstract thinking (CPA).

Within Reception and Key Stage 1, daily mathematics lessons are supplemented with Mastering Number:  a short, 10–15-minute, number-focused session that builds on early number learning and reinforces key concepts as children move on throughout topics and year groups. This carefully structured progression ensures that all children achieve well and are fully prepared for the next stage of their education.
