Toy Workshop

Toys workshop

In History this term we have looked at toys through the ages.  We looked at many toys from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s in particular.  We started our term with choosing our favourite toy from a pile of toys and described it in brief using our adjectives.  Then we moved on to looking at toys that our parents or grandparents may have played with, from there we compared modern toys with old toys and thought about their weight and materials.  We also discovered that many old toys were handmade and hand painted, making them expensive, so  rich people were more likely to have them. We realised that we are lucky to have so many toys to play with due to them being cheaper to produce and for us to purchase.

We completed our unit of work by attending ‘History of Toys’ workshop, where we were able  to participate in activities at various work stations and play with old toys. We also applied our knowledge to sort toys into different groups  bearing in mind the material they were made from and how they were produced.  Then later on we made our own toys like the ones from the past and played with them!
