Behaviour

Holtspur School and Pre School has a positive behaviour policy which was inspired by Paul Dix's book 'When The Adults Change, Everything Changes'. We understand that all behaviour is a form of communication and we know that all children respond to praise and encouragement. Our behaviour policy highlights the standards and high expectations that we have of all pupils and the ways that we ensure that we are consistent and fair across the school.

At Holtspur School and Pre School, we follow 5 core values Ready, Respectful, Safe, Kind and Unique. We have an expectation that children are caring and compassionate friends who are respectful, tolerant and kind towards one other. We celebrate every child's uniqueness and have named this as our 5th value. The aim of our behaviour policy is to provide guidance and support for staff in nurturing and developing the positive behaviours that we expect within our school and our community.  This will support our belief that everybody should have the right to feel safe, valued and respected at our school. It is our intention that the principles and philosophy which underpin this policy become deeply embedded within the culture of our School.

It is our aim that the approach to managing behaviour is both positive and restorative with positive relationships at the centre of the work we do.  We want to develop a culture of intrinsic motivators whereby children make positive behaviour choices because it is important to them rather than because of the rewards they receive.  We recognise children may make poor choices at times but we aim to utilise these as a learning experience for the child so that they grow up understanding the impact of their behaviour on others.
