Growth Mindset
Fri 19 May 2017As you know, we have developing a growth mindset with our children this year. This is where the children develop ‘can do’ attitudes based on the fact that making mistake is all part of learning, not giving up leads to success and there are times we need to be very resilient in order to achieve our goals.
What we say to our children – and what they say to themselves – is a crucial part of helping them develop a growth mindset. We have shown what children could be saying to themselves when they are ‘stuck’- either because they are finding things a challenge or because they are not willing to put effort in in order to achieve their best.

Y6 - Mini-enterprise afternoon - 19th May
Fri 19 May 2017Year 6 are holding their mini-enterprise afternoon. They have already begun working hard in groups to develop a simple business, work out costs, materials, advertising and charges. They will be providing activities and products for the rest of the school to enjoy and any profit they make will pay for their trip to Cotswold Wild Life Park on Wednesday 19th July. To that end, please send in UP TO £5.00 in a named purse or wallet next Friday for your child to spend at the Year 6 stalls -
Walk to School - Happy Shoe Day 15th May!
Fri 05 May 2017To participate in the ‘Walk to school week’ which is 15th May to 19th May, we are holding a ‘Happy Shoe Day’ on 15th May. This is where the children can dress up their shoes. They can decorate them colourfully, glittery, shiny, make them cartoony or gorilla feet - whatever brings that smile on their walk to school. One person out of each class will win a prize for the best decorated shoes, so get decorating. There are also shoe capes available to decorate which attach to the shoe. Please download from the attachment on the newsletter if you would like to use them.
We will keep you updated with other events but in the meantime happy decorating.

Footsteps Volunteers Needed!
Fri 05 May 2017- Footsteps is Buckinghamshire County Council’s child pedestrian training scheme.
- Adult volunteers (parents!), take the children out into the local area to learn road safety.
- Every year we run this for year 2 at Holtspur School.
BUT WE NEED MORE VOLUNTEERS!!
Training is provided by Bucks CC and is FREE! This takes 1 ½ hours and is held in various locations in Bucks.
You will need to also follow the school’s volunteer policy (application form, DBS check and short interview). This will also cover for ANY assisting in school.
We take the children out twice per term, usually at the start of the school day. Roughly 08:45 – 09:45.
You don’t have to commit to every session! Days vary depending on availability of our volunteers.
Please fill in the form if you are interested and return to the school office (See Parents - Letters.) Please note that you must be DSB checked. Feel free to contact the school office, Sharon Meyer (school bursar) for DBS details, or Debbie (Footsteps co-ordinator 07740 604449) for more details. Thank you!
Harinder Kaler and Debbie Gill
Please see Parents/Letters for a volunteer form, we look forward to hearing from you!

A sad goodbye to Narinder ...
Fri 28 Apr 2017We were sad to say goodbye to Narinder Tegally last Friday. She has been the local vicar and has made a positive contribution to the life of the school over this period, both in her role as governor and through visiting and working with the children. We wish her every success as she moves to Bath to take up a new role -
Writer & Hand writer of the month!
Fri 28 Apr 2017Congratulations to Keeley in Year 3 for winning Writer of the Month and Keya in Year 6 for winning Hand writer of the Month. Well done to you both!
It’s raining frogs and dogs,
It’s pouring cats and hats,
Eggs and elephants dropping from the sky,
It’s drizzling rubies and rugs,
It’s spitting Oreo’s and olives
It’s chucking down fish and chips
Cotton candy and coco bars,
It’s dripping dogs in kennels,
Rain and hail,
It’s raining pizza and cheetahs,
It’s chucking down teddies and flowers
It’s chucking down volcanoes and rocks,
It’s raining Lords and swords,
It’s spitting bands and hands.
By Keeley Year 3
Based on the poem “Its raining pigs and noodles” by Jack Prelutsky

Have we got up-to-date contact numbers?
Fri 21 Apr 2017Please can you ensure that the office has up-to-date contact telephone numbers for your child/ren. We encountered a problem earlier this week when we were unable to contact several parents. Luckily these were not emergency matters, but should this be the case then we need to contact parents/family members as soon as possible.
