  • New School Games Challenge

    Wed 29 Apr 2020

We have a new School Games challenge for pupils, parents and staff ..

Last week many of you rose to the challenge but WE NEED MORE of you. Can you help us celebrate Captain Tom's 100th Birthday? He raised an incredible sum of money for the NHS by being active and completing 100 laps of his garden. Tomorrow he turns 100 🎁🎈 and we want to help him celebrate with our own version.

    When: Thursday 30th April (anytime)

    What: 100 reps

How: You can choose any activity using any or no equipment and complete it 100 times.

Ideas: 100 skips, 100 keepy uppies, 100 laps of your garden or up and down the stairs, 100 arm raises, 100 grip and drops, 100 squats, 100 high knees, 100 hops... Be as creative as you like! This is one that EVERYONE can join in on.

  • New School Challenge at Home ...

    Fri 24 Apr 2020

We are going to start a new school challenge! During your daily exercise session, please track how far you run, walk, scoot or cycle so that we can create a whole school weekly total!

To submit your results there are two options.

    1. Keep a record of your kilometres and submit your weekly total, that includes all your children's distances, to office@holtspurschool.co.uk by 2pm every Friday. To record your daily activity you can use a Smartwatch or Smartphone.
    2. Download the 'Strava' app and add the Holtspur School account. When you save your activity please put the number of children who took part so I can calculate your total.

Every Friday, I will then add all our totals together and announce how far we have travelled as a school.

Best wishes and enjoying keeping active,

    Miss Noble

Update: Thank you to those who have joined the ‘Holtspur School’ Strava Club. It is great to see how you are all keeping active during this time! Please can you only post activities you complete with your children so we can accurately record how far the children have travelled in our weekly totals and leaderboards.

  • A message from Melissa Kay - visiting author of 'Hide & Seek Hippo'

    Fri 03 Apr 2020

Our second picture book - 'Sam’s Shadow Braves The Night’ - came out last month. (Our first ‘Hide & Seek Hippo’ is currently in 15 countries and the second print run is almost sold out!)...But with no postal service there’s no way to supply actual books for now and all my school tour plans are currently on hold so…

We’re shifting the big reveal to a FB live event! Details are here: https://www.facebook.com/yawnsandgiggles/

The session is aimed at 5-8 year olds. For UK Time it will be 2.30pm on the 9th April. There is some optional preparation work to do (but it’s fun!) and then there will be plenty of chances for interaction during the session too. The idea is that it covers a range of topics from literacy to science. Plus, anyone watching will be part of a world first! No one, apart from our wonderful test readers, has ever heard this story before!!

We hope to see some of you online next week :)

    Best regards,

    Melissa Kay

Thank you to all who took part!

  • Reading Books update ...

    Thu 02 Apr 2020

Currently, following government guidance we are reducing any unnecessary contact with people coming into the school. We are closely monitoring and reviewing this and if there are any further changes, where we could facilitate book changes, we will do. As an alternative at this time, we have put some suggestions below- Oxford Owl have a free eBook library that is accessible, with book bands shown in the drop down tab that we follow as a scheme in school. We encourage all aspects of reading; magazines, recipes and instructions included.
