  • Thanks to those who have helped to paint ... a request for those who would like to paint!

    Wed 05 Sep 2018
Lots of painting went on in the summer holidays! The staff & children would like to say a huge thank you to the BCC Procurement Team who volunteered for a days painting at the school and decorated the KS2 corridor and year 3 classroom.

Also, D&B volunteers painted the Library and IT suite; staff painted the entrance area and corridor.  KS1 corridor, Reception and Year 1 class have also been painted following the flood from last year. However, KS2 classrooms - Year 4, 5 & 6  still need painting … Mrs Meyer is organising a volunteer painting day on Saturday 20th October 2018, if any parents would like to volunteer please contact the office on office@holtspurschool.co.uk - any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks!

  • Summer Maths Challenge

    Fri 20 Jul 2018
Holtspur School has taken advantage of an opportunity to be one of the schools participating in the Summer Maths Challenge, which we hope will help develop our pupils’ maths skills - without eating into their well-deserved break!

Just like learning a musical instrument or playing a sport, maths is a subject children must practice to build the strong foundations they need to become fluent and move forward with confidence. This summer challenge, with its colourful progress chart and certificates, will help encourage pupils to put in that practice and make practice fun!

The challenge is to complete 15 short maths practice sessions which are based on the National Curriculum for the school year your child has just completed. These ‘little and often’ sessions are perfectly crafted to sharpen maths skills without getting in the way of summer relaxation - and without keeping children at the screen for too long.

Our school has been given a unique code to enter onto komodomath.com/summer so that you can access these practice sessions completely free of charge. Ours is

    SLHOLTSPUR

All you have to do is visit komodomath.com/summer and enter this code in the ‘voucher code’ field when you sign up on the page.

It’s quick, it’s free, it won’t take too much time and we really believe that participating in this initiative will have tangible benefits for our pupils.

We look forward to hearing how you all got on!

Good luck and enjoy the challenge,

  • Summer Reading Challenge

    Fri 13 Jul 2018

Penny from Beaconsfield Library came into assembly this morning to explain to the children about the summer reading challenge. The aim is to read 6 books over the summer from the library.

This year’s theme is The Beano. Children will receive a pack with a treasure map and choose a character. Once they have read two books, they receive stickers for their chart giving them clues to where to find the treasure. After their 4th book, they receive more sticker clues and glasses . Once they have read their 6th book they will receive a certificate and medal. In the Autumn term we will have an assembly for those children who managed the reading challenge. Penny also told us about other free events at the library to sign up for – including lego club, a talk about photography tips and hints and a dinosaur expert giving a talk! We hope as many of our children as possible can join this challenge – there was certainly a big buzz about it in assembly this morning!

  • Nut Allergy Alert

    Fri 29 Jun 2018

Please note that we are a nut free school. We have children who have a severe allergy to nuts, which can be triggered even by being in the vicinity of them. Please do not send in packets of nuts or any nut products in pack lunch boxes. This included Nutella chocolate spread. Your co-operation is much appreciated.

  • Sports Day Update

    Tue 26 Jun 2018
We have been keeping a close eye on the weather forecast for this week and, as you know, it is set to be very hot for the rest of the week.   We are concerned about the children spending a long time out in the sun, possibly with little shelter, so we have made some adjustments to the arrangements on Friday.   We will be postponing Celebration assembly until Friday 6th July.   This will mean that KS1 will be ready to start Sports Day at about 9am.  KS2 will follow on from KS1 at approximately 10.30am.  Parents and toddler races will take place after KS2 have completed their Sports , (about Midday) which will then be followed by our picnic lunch.   We anticipate lunch going on until 1.45pm. A bell will signify that the children should return to class in order to be registered for the afternoon. At this point, if you wish to, you may take your children home. We will supervise all children who remain with us until 3.15pm.   Y6 should remain in school until 3.15pm as they will be practicing their performance with Mr Whitelock.   I apologise for the change in timings, but we wish to keep the children as protected as possible. We have take this decision as early as possible to allow for parents to alter plans should they need to.  If anybody has a gazebo that they could lend us for the day, we would be more than grateful.
